Eilish McColgan, an ASICS professional athlete plus a three-time Olympian and European record holder in the road 10-kilometer and 10-mile races along with a two-time medalist at European Championships in addition to being a seven-time national champion for Scotland and Britsh record holder in five events, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss being selected for her fourth World Championships and third Commonwealth Games this summer. McColgan, 31, is scheduled to compete in the 10,000-meter final July 16 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., as well as racing in the 5,000-meter qualifying July 20, looking to advance to the championship race July 23. She attempted the same double at the Tokyo Olympics last year, placing ninth in the 10,000, before finishing 10th in her qualifying heat of the 5,000. McColgan revisits her first Olympics in 2012 in London, along with her World Championships debut in 2013 in Russia, competing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in both events. She reflects on missing the 2015 World Championships as a result of injury and focusing her career on building toward longer distances ever since, which will add a new chapter Oct. 2 with her scheduled debut in the TCS London Marathon. McColgan shares a few setbacks she has been forced to overcome this year with illness, but explains her optimism heading toward World Championships, especially already arriving in Colorado Springs to be able to train before traveling to Oregon. She analyzes her personal-best 30:19.02 performance June 6 in the 10,000 meters at the FBK Games in Hengelo, Netherlands, defeating a deep field of Ethiopian, Kenyan, Ugandan and Eritrean athletes in inclement weather. McColgan also examines her record-setting road performances at the 10-kilometer distance May 22 at the Great Manchester Run, clocking 30:19 to place second behind Kenyan star Hellen Obiri, along with her 66:26 effort in February to finish at the RAK Half Marathon in United Arab Emirates. She speaks about the significance of the Commonwealth Games being held in Birmingham, England, with the track schedule held Aug. 2-7, as well as the potential of her competing Aug. 15-21 in the European Championships in Munich, before shifting her focus toward marathon preparation. McColgan also promotes her partnership with GoZwiftRun and taking part July 6 in a virtual treadmill workout.
