Elijah Manangoi Looking to Make Up for Early Exit at 2014 Commonwealth GamesBy Adam Kopet Elijah Manangoi of Kenya failed to make the 1,500-meter final at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Four years later, he is looking to avenge that loss by winning gold in Gold Coast, Australia, according to Xinhua. In the 2014 event, held in Glasgow, United Kingdom, Manangoi suffered from an injured hamstring. That injury contributed to his falling in the semifinal, causing him to miss qualifying for the final. Now Manangoi returns to the Commonwealth Games as the reigning 1,500 world champion and the favorite to win in Gold Coast. Manangoi, 25, is not only looking for personal glory, but to lead the Kenyan team to success. He has been made team captain. Following the Commonwealth Games, Manangoi will compete May 12 at the Shanghai Diamond League meeting. More news |
